We recommend Jefferson… for Texas Supreme Court
There may not be a more respected jurist in Texas than Wallace Jefferson, the incumbent in this race. A member of the court since 2001 and chief justice since 2004, Justice Jefferson has made the court more transparent by posting oral arguments, filings and opinions online. Justice Jefferson, 45, a Republican, points to his record writing opinions both for and against defendants of lawsuits, and he speaks openly about the need to address head-on the notion that the court, as a whole, is biased against plaintiffs.
We urge Justice Jefferson — and others on the court — to take more concrete steps toward reducing the court’s backlog and turning opinions around faster. For example, Justice Jefferson and his opponent like the idea of posting some sort of work log online so the public can see how busy individual justices are. Don’t let a reform idea like that gather dust.
Democrat Jim Jordan offers voters a valid option in the race. As judge of the 160th District Court in Dallas, he has built a reputation of being fair. We have recommended the 56-year-old for office before, but this time he is running against a strong incumbent with a lot of good work left to do.
We recommend Chief Justice Jefferson.
