The Caller-Times Editorial Board recommendations are:
Chief Justice, Supreme Court
The Editorial Board recommends the re-election of the incumbent chief justice, Wallace Jefferson, to another term. Jefferson, the first African-American judge to lead the state’s highest civil court, has been chief justice since 2004. During that time, he has pushed the court to post more records and oral arguments online, which has given the court greater transparency. While there has been a reported backlog of cases, Jefferson said he is taking action to reduce that backlog. He has performed his job with diligence and commitment.
Jefferson’s opponents include Jim Jordan, a Democrat, a respected district judge in Dallas County, and Tom Oxford, Libertarian, an attorney in Beaumont.
